Traditional Food Day Celebrated by Anganwadi Workers

April 15, 2025 54 0 Comment

Kakatpur, 14/04 (Tushar Dixit) – All Anganwadi workers from various panchayats under the Women and Child Development Department in Kakatpur, Puri district, celebrated Traditional Food Day with great enthusiasm. Odia home-cooked meals are not only flavorful but also packed with nutrients essential for health and well-being. Many Odia dishes are based on scientific, organic, and Ayurvedic principles, making them highly beneficial.

In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, traditional dishes and snacks that are disappearing from our kitchens—such as various pithas and panas—are being reintroduced to the younger generation through this initiative. To achieve this, all Anganwadi workers of Kakatpur Panchayat came together to observe the day with cultural pride and celebration.

Dishes featured during the event included traditional Odia meals like Pakhala (fermented rice), Khichudi (rice and lentil dish), Dalma (vegetables cooked with lentils), a variety of leafy greens grown in backyard gardens, fried drumstick flowers and shoots, fried lemon rind, Badi Chura (crushed lentil dumplings), raw mango chutney, mashed eggplant, jackfruit curry, Bhurusingha leaf chutney, Kakhara flower pithas, and several other traditional sweets and savories.

The event was inaugurated by Kakatpur Sector Supervisor Rajalaxmi Dei. Union President Priyambada Mishra, along with Minakshi Panda, Desh Priya, Ahalya Sundari, Jayashree Tripathy, Sumitra, Rashmirekha, Sukanti, and several other Anganwadi workers participated and contributed to the success of the celebration.
