Earthen Pots and Tap-Installed Clay Pots by the Roadside Attracting Public Attention
Kakatpur, 24/03/2025 – (Tushar Dixit): In today’s scientific age, people are installing branded water purifiers in their homes, yet the charm of traditional clay pots, ghum, surei, and mathia remains unmatched. Despite advancements, these earthen vessels continue to be preferred for their ability to naturally purify and cool water without electricity. People still appreciate utensils made of bronze, brass, copper, and clay. Crafted from various materials and adorned in colorful terracotta designs, these household items are being sold along roadsides, in local markets, and weekly haats by potter families. Their appeal grows stronger during the scorching summer, drawing customers toward these simple yet effective solutions.
Water stored in these clay pots stays cool and quenches thirst better than any modern alternative. Visitors arriving at homes in this heat are served cool water from these clay pots, soothing their thirst. In many panchayats, the government is setting up public water stations to provide clean drinking water to passersby. In addition, various organizations are placing brightly colored earthen pots along roadsides to attract attention and provide relief to travelers. With the second phase of the sacred Jhamu Yatra at the Mangala Temple taking place tomorrow, large gatherings are expected, and in view of this, arrangements have been made by different organizations to offer water through clay pots and water sprayers.
Due to the increasing demand for these clay products, some economically disadvantaged individuals, once on the brink of abandoning their pottery profession, are now sustaining themselves by innovating their products. Alongside water pots, they are crafting items like clay bottles, money storage containers, and other household goods to support their livelihoods. Intellectuals have opined that if the government identifies and supports these potters by providing proper schemes and facilities, it could help them become self-reliant and enable them to lead a happy and stable family life.
