A Great Victory for India!
India has achieved a significant victory! In an international election, India’s candidate, Member of Parliament Aparajita Sarangi, won with a two-thirds majority vote.
This election took place for a position in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), an international organization consisting of 178 countries. The IPU was established in 1887, and its functioning is overseen by a 15-member Executive Committee. One position in this committee had become vacant, prompting this election.
The last Indian to serve on this committee was Najma Heptulla in 2002. For the past 20 years, India had no representation in this important body.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated Bhubaneswar MP and national spokesperson Aparajita Sarangi as India’s candidate for the election. In a contest for a single seat, Aparajita Sarangi emerged victorious with a two-thirds majority vote, marking a historic win for India.
The Indian delegation, which was in Kigali, Rwanda, for the IPU session, celebrated this success with great joy. Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla welcomed the news and extended his congratulations. Best wishes poured in from across the country, marking this as a proud and momentous occasion for all Indians, especially the 45 million Odias.
Aparajita Sarangi expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for selecting her as the candidate. After her victory, she thanked all the nations that supported her and assured cooperation even with those who had opposed her candidacy. She emphasized India’s core philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—the world is one family.
MP Aparajita Sarangi called this a victory for India and thanked everyone for their support.
