Two Youths Swept Away in Jahania SeaOne Rescued Unconscious, Another Still Missing
Kakatpur, 23rd January – The picnic season has begun, and the youth, as always, tend to prefer locations like waterfalls and beaches for their outings. On Monday, three youths from Panaspada village under Anasada Panchayat in Jagatsinghpur district – Nasir Alam (20), Sheikh Amjad Ali (26), and Sakir Khan (28) – came to visit Jahania Beach in Astaranga, Puri district.
While bathing in the sea, Nasir Alam and Amjad Ali were swept away by strong sea currents. Upon receiving the information, Astaranga Fire Department personnel rushed to the spot and, with the help of local youths, managed to rescue Amjad Ali in an unconscious state. He was immediately taken to Astaranga Health Centre for treatment. There, the doctor referred him to Charichhak Health Centre for more advanced medical care.
Meanwhile, the third youth, Sakir Khan, is still missing at the time of reporting.
As the tourist season continues, thousands of visitors from within and outside the district are arriving at Jahania Beach for sightseeing, picnics, and sea bathing. However, the lack of deployed lifeguards at the beach has raised serious questions about the efficiency and responsibility of local police and the forest department.
