Brahmapur Girl Hoists National Flag on Africa’s Highest Peak
Brahmapur, 15.02: Madhusmita Patra from Gosani Nuagaon in Brahmapur has successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro (6,895 m), the highest peak in the African continent. Madhusmita is a trained mountaineer. In 2022, she received her training from the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) under the Government of India. She has previously scaled Mount Renock, Chadar trek, and Kedarkantha, among others.
She began her Kilimanjaro expedition on the 10th of this month, starting from the Marangu Gate at the base of the mountain. Each day, she trekked for about 5 to 7 hours. Along with her guide, she reached the summit of Kilimanjaro and proudly hoisted the Indian national flag there. Madhusmita is scheduled to return to Bhubaneswar on the 17th.
She is the younger daughter of Premananda Patra, a retired Air Force officer, and Pushpanjali Patra. Currently, Madhusmita works as a computer engineer at TCS in Chennai. She now aims to conquer Mount Everest in the future.
