Heatwave Crosses 40°C in Coastal Region, Daily Life Disrupted
Kakatpur, 18/04 – Over the past few days, unbearable humidity has gripped the state. While western Odisha is experiencing extreme heat with temperatures crossing 42°C, the coastal regions have not been spared either.
According to the India Meteorological Department, areas like Kakatpur and Astaranga in the coastal belt have recorded extreme temperatures. Since 8 AM, scorching heat coupled with hot, dry winds has thrown public life out of gear.
Adding to the distress, the Prachi River has dried up, leaving domesticated animals without water and in a state of suffering. Devotees and pilgrims visiting the Maa Mangala Temple are facing difficulties due to the lack of adequate drinking water facilities. From the parking area to the temple premises, they are struggling to find drinking water.
Though there are two tube wells in the area, they are not sufficient to meet the needs of the growing number of visitors. Moreover, within a 2-kilometer radius of the Kakatpur market, there is no arrangement for cold or potable water by the concerned departments, leaving the public to suffer in silence.
There is a growing public demand for the Puri District Collector and local administration to take immediate and necessary action to address the situation.
