Bangurigaon Community Health Center Turns into Breeding Ground for Dengue Mosquitoes
Kakatpur, 15/09: The inclusion of Bangurigaon Community Health Center under Kakatpur block in the ‘Mo Hospital’ scheme had initially brought joy to the local residents. However, due to the contractor’s negligence and lack of sincerity in work, proper drainage has not been ensured. As a result, rainwater accumulates up to knee-level at the main entrance of the medical facility, creating a foul-smelling environment and a favorable breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes, which spread dengue.
The entrance to the health center looks like a man-made flood zone. A place meant for curing diseases is now ironically becoming a site that invites illness. Despite being part of the state government’s prestigious ‘Mo Hospital’ initiative and having crores of rupees spent on its development, the lack of foresight by the responsible engineers and their alleged collusion with the contractor has led to neglect of proper water drainage during construction.
Investigations reveal that although the construction work is of substandard quality, even after repeated complaints from the locals, there has been no response or visit from the junior engineers. Furthermore, as the construction was carried out without a proper plan or program, even the beautification work done a couple of years ago at huge expenses has now been destroyed to start new construction again, leading to a massive loss of public funds.
Amid a rise in dengue cases across the state, the stagnant water at the health center is suspected to be contributing to the spread of the disease, sparking serious concerns among the intellectual community. Due to the waterlogging, people are also facing great difficulty in accessing the hospital.
Local residents have submitted a petition to attract the attention of departmental officers, the minister, and five secretaries, demanding immediate remedial measures.
