Inauguration of Odia University: A Dream Come True for Millions of Odias

January 24, 2024 129 0 Comment

Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated the new campus of Odia University at Satyabadi. On this momentous occasion, the Chief Minister described the event as a proud moment for the Odia community. He highlighted a series of recent milestones, including the launch of the Shri Jagannath Heritage Corridor project, the inauguration of the Odia University campus today, the upcoming launch of the Samlei project on January 27, and the first-ever World Odia Language Conference scheduled for February 3.

Congratulating the university’s Vice Chancellor, faculty, and students, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of nurturing literature rooted in Odia culture, lifestyle, and traditions. He expressed hope that Odia University would take a leading role in promoting and preserving Odia literature.

Describing Satyabadi as the cradle of the Odia renaissance, the Chief Minister paid tribute to Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das, calling Satyabadi his karmabhumi (land of work). He also paid homage to Adikabi Sarala Das and honored the great personalities who fought to protect the Odia language and enriched its literature.

The Chief Minister remarked, “Language is the identity of a nation; it is its crown. As language use increases, it prospers, and so does the pride of the community.” He stressed the need to promote Odia literature globally, encourage interest in the language among the youth, increase its use on social media, and enhance research on the Odia language.

Higher Education Minister Shri Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, who attended the event, described Odia University as a significant contribution by the Chief Minister toward preserving the Odia language and identity. He noted that Odias around the world who love the language and literature are excited about this initiative.

5T and “Nabin Odisha” Chairman Shri V.K. Pandian coordinated the event. Satyabadi MLA Shri Umakanta Samantaray, Vice Chancellor Professor Sabita Pradhan, and others also addressed the gathering. Higher Education Secretary Shri Aravind Agrawal delivered the welcome speech, and University Registrar Rashmirekha Das extended the vote of thanks.

It is noteworthy that the Chief Minister had laid the foundation stone for Odia University on October 9, 2018, in Satyabadi. Today marks the inauguration of its first phase. Built over 10 acres, the university features modern architecture and technology. The display of the Odia alphabet on the administrative building is particularly captivating.

The campus includes a School of Learning, library, hostel, Radha Kunda pond, cafeteria, fountains, and more, all designed with aesthetic appeal. There are also provisions for open-air classes, creating an enriching educational environment.
