Senior Servitor of Mangala Temple Passes Away
Kakatpur, 25/1 (Tushar Ranjan Dixit) — Senior servitor of the renowned Mangala Temple, Gouranga Dixit (aged 97), passed away yesterday at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. Two days ago, while walking, he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to Bhubaneswar by his family members, where he passed away while undergoing treatment.
His eldest son, Basanta Kumar Dixit—also a senior priest of Goddess Mangala—and younger son, Hemanta Kumar Dixit, were present by his side at the time of his passing. After his demise, his body was brought back to his residence in his native village, Kakatpur.
The funeral procession to the village cremation ground was attended by relatives, family members, local servitors, and several intellectuals from the area. As per tradition, his sons Basanta Dixit and Hemanta Dixit performed the last rites by lighting the funeral pyre.
Among those present were his grandsons Tubu, Keetunu, Budha, and Ranjan, along with many other close family members. The late Gouranga Dixit was known for his devotion; he used to visit the temple every day and listen to the Bhagavata Katha Amrita (spiritual discourses) with great reverence.
