Much-Awaited Maa Samaleswari Project Inaugurated in Sambalpur
The long-awaited Maa Samaleswari Project in Sambalpur has been officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. As per the pre-scheduled program, the Chief Minister arrived at Jamadarpali Airstrip by flight around 12:30 PM and proceeded to the Samaleswari Temple, where he formally inaugurated the project at around 1:00 PM. He was accompanied by 5T Chairman V.K. Pandian.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister toured the entire Samaleswari Project site via an e-vehicle (E.V. cart). Before the inauguration, over a thousand women carried water pots from the Mahanadi River in a ceremonial procession (Kalasa Yatra) to the temple. A hom yajna (sacred fire ritual) also commenced at the Yajna Kunda located within the temple premises.
Due to the inauguration and special rituals, general darshan at the Samaleswari Temple was suspended from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. In the evening, a grand Sandhya Aarti (evening ritual) was performed at the Mahanadi Ghat along the riverbank.
As part of the Samaleswari Project, the temple surroundings have been significantly expanded and beautified. The project includes the construction of a Yatri Nivas (guest house) and Yatri Waiting Hall. Special shaded pathways have been built for devotees to offer prayers comfortably during harsh summers and monsoons.
Additionally, a stepwell (pushkarini) in the temple complex has been restored. Various trees and ornamental plants have been planted, and intricately carved stone artworks adorn the temple premises. Due to the importance of the event, all schools and colleges across the state were declared closed for the day. The recitation of Chandi Path alongside the Hom Yajna filled the atmosphere with sacred energy.
The Chief Minister later reviewed the transformation works undertaken at the temple complex. He also interacted with members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as part of the day’s events.
The grand transformation of the revered Maa Samaleswari Temple, the presiding deity of Western Odisha, has been completed to provide devotees with a divine and enriching experience. Special focus has been given to temple security, infrastructure development, and enhancing facilities for devotees.
Ahead of the inauguration, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed the people of Odisha, stating that Maa Samaleswari is the Goddess of Faith for the entire state. Her temple is a spiritual center for millions, and this transformation has been done keeping in mind the emotions and devotion of the people. He emphasized that the project is a symbol of the unwavering faith of countless devotees and has been made possible by the blessings of Maa Samaleswari.
