Shrimad Bhagavata Saptaha Observed with Devotion in Kakatpur

Kakatpur, 15/11
(By: Tushar Dixit)

For Hindus and especially for Odias, the month of Kartika holds great religious significance. It is regarded as the most sacred month in the Hindu calendar. With the advent of urban influence in village life, many age-old cultural and religious practices have gradually faded. Among them, the tradition of reciting the Shrimad Bhagavata — a revered text in Jagannath culture and Odia heritage — is becoming increasingly rare.

However, in a heartening initiative, the residents of Tripathi Sahi and Muduli Sahi under Somanathpur village in Kakatpur block, Puri district, have kept this spiritual tradition alive. As in every year, this year too, they organized a week-long Shrimad Bhagavata Saptaha Parayana from November 9 to 15 to coincide with the holy month of Kartika.

The event included recitations of significant episodes from the Bhagavata such as the birth of Lord Krishna and the celebration of Nanda Utsav. The atmosphere of the village resonated with bhajans and kirtans, creating a divine environment. On the occasion of Rasa Purnima, the event concluded with Purnahuti and a community prasada feast. Additionally, twelve senior citizens of the village were felicitated with tokens of respect and flower bouquets, as they shared their past experiences and wisdom with fellow villagers.

Under the active supervision of Parshuram Tripathi, the event saw enthusiastic participation from villagers like Arakhita Muduli, Kedar Das, Nimai Charan Tripathi, Jhari Muduli, Brundaban Tripathi, and Bikash Muduli, among others. These villagers, deeply rooted in spiritual and cultural values, have resolved to continue organizing this Bhagavata Saptaha annually with utmost dedication and faith, aiming for the all-round development of the village and the betterment of society.
