Seizure of Cattle Transport Vehicle, Two Arrested
Kakatpur, 20/11/2024 (Tushar Dixit) — A vehicle illegally transporting cattle was seized by Kakatpur police near the Patharpaka canal road. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the area and intercepted a Mahindra pickup van (registration number OD05BP-2877) carrying cattle suspected of being smuggled. The vehicle was brought to the station, and upon inspection, it was found to be transporting four castrated bulls and oxen. The rescued cattle were handed over to the Gosala located at Balighai in Puri, according to investigating officer Bishwanath Pattnaik.
The case has been registered under case number 231/24 with charges framed under Sections 303(2), 317(2), 3(5), and 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Two individuals involved in the illegal transport have been arrested and presented before the court. As illegal cattle trafficking continues to threaten livestock in Kakatpur and its surrounding areas, the National Cow Protection Committee has demanded immediate identification of offenders and strict action against those involved.
