Memorandum Submitted Demanding Complete Ban on Cow Slaughter in Odisha
Puri, 28/03/2025: The voices demanding the removal of the stain of cow slaughter from the sacred soil of Lord Jagannath in Odisha are becoming increasingly intense. There is a strong demand for the immediate passage and implementation of the proposed Cow Slaughter Prohibition and Cow Protection Bill in the State Assembly. In light of recent revelations, such as the shocking discovery of piles of cow bones in the Tigria Baraman forest, illegal trading of beef under the guise of mutton, rising cases of cow slaughter, and the smuggling of cattle and beef, cow devotees have expressed deep anger and frustration. Calling for urgent action, various spiritual, social, and cow protection organizations gathered today at the District Collector’s office in Cuttack and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Honorable Chief Minister and Governor of Odisha.

The memorandum appeals for a total ban on cow slaughter in Odisha, immediate intervention to curb the trafficking of cattle and smuggling of beef, and strict measures to prevent cruelty against cows. It further recommends the formation of an Odisha Cow Protection Commission and urges the government to promptly pass the Odisha Cow Slaughter Prohibition and Cow Protection Bill, 2024, in the State Assembly. The organizations warned that if these demands are not met, public movements for cow protection would intensify and may escalate to the point where people are compelled to take the law into their own hands, for which the government would be held accountable.

In this campaign, representatives from Puri’s Sri Jagannath Goseva Trust, Sambhabana Seva Parishad, Saswat Foundation, and several other organizations participated and formally submitted the memorandum to the District Collector.
