Body of Missing Youth Recovered from Jahania Sea
Kakatpur, 24th January – On Monday, three youths from Panaspada village under Anasada Panchayat in Jagatsinghpur district – Nasir Alam (20), Sheikh Amjad Ali (26), and Sakir Khan (18) – had come to visit the Jahania beach on the Astaranga coast in Puri district. While bathing in the sea, Nasir Alam and Amjad Ali were swept away by a strong current.
Upon receiving the information, personnel from the Astaranga Fire Department reached the spot and, with the help of local youths, managed to rescue Amjad Ali in an unconscious state. He was immediately taken to Astaranga Health Centre, from where doctors referred him to Charichhak Health Centre. However, upon arrival, doctors at Charichhak declared him dead.
Meanwhile, Sakir Khan had gone missing in the sea. On Tuesday, the Astaranga fire services conducted an intensive search at the incident site and at around 1 PM, they recovered Sakir’s body from the sea and brought it to Astaranga Health Centre.
Following the recovery, Astaranga police sent the deceased’s body to Charichhak for post-mortem. As the tourist season is currently ongoing, thousands of visitors from within and outside the district are coming daily to Jahania beach for sightseeing, picnics, and sea bathing.
However, due to the absence of lifeguards along the shoreline, such tragic incidents continue to occur every year. There is a growing public demand for the immediate deployment of lifeguards at Jahania beach to prevent further loss of life.
