Secretary of Dhanitri Cooperative Society Suspended for Irregularities
The Secretary of Dhanitri Cooperative Society, located under Kaduan Nuagaon Gram Panchayat of Kakatpur Block in Puri district, was suspended on Monday following allegations of irregularities in his duties. As per letter no. 912/10.04.2023 issued by the Additional Registrar of the Puri District Cooperative Society, Shri Bishnu Charan Behura, who held the position of Secretary, has been suspended from his responsibilities.
The suspension followed complaints lodged by local villagers and farmers with the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies in Bhubaneswar. Allegations against Shri Behura include submitting fake matriculation and other educational certificates to acquire the post of Secretary, as well as misappropriation of loan and insurance funds belonging to several farmers, along with other financial irregularities.
The complaints were submitted by over a hundred farmers, including Duryodhan Mahanti, Shankar Bhuya, former sarpanch Bhimasen Sethi, and prominent social worker and leader Kailash Lenka. Acting on the complaints, the Registrar of Cooperative Societies in Bhubaneswar, through letter no. 2858/23 dated 07.05.2023, directed the Additional Registrar of Puri District Cooperative Society to suspend Shri Behura.
Following the directive, on Monday, the Additional Registrar of Puri Cooperative Society officially suspended Shri Behura from his position for an indefinite period. In his place, Alekh Chandra Nayak, the Secretary of Khundai Cooperative Society, has been given additional responsibility.
Meanwhile, the suspended Secretary, Shri Behura, has been instructed to remain present and continue work at the Block Headquarters office during the suspension period.
