Public Grievance Hearing by District Collector Turns into a Farce
Kakatpur, Date: 17/04 — On Monday, a public grievance hearing camp was organized by the district administration at the Kakatpur block premises to assess whether various welfare schemes of the state government are properly reaching the general public and to understand their conveniences and inconveniences. However, the hearing camp held at the block premises today turned into more of a farce.
Shockingly, the local block administration did not provide any prior information about the camp to local public representatives, residents, or media personnel. As a result, in the absence of the District Collector, the Additional District Collector presided over the camp, conducting it in a hurried manner.
Residents who somehow got wind of the event gathered at the block premises and submitted a large number of complaints to the Additional District Collector. Despite this, the block administration failed to provide any satisfactory responses. Of the many grievances lodged, around 50 were formally submitted to the Additional District Collector.
The complaints included allegations of widespread corruption in MGNREGA (employment guarantee scheme), irregularities in housing schemes and pensions, and even payments made for incomplete works. The Additional District Collector appeared unprepared and struggled to respond adequately to the flood of accusations.
Block Development Officer Tushar Jyoti Ranjan seemed more concerned with wrapping up the hearing quickly, trying to conclude the entire program within an hour, which clearly indicated a lack of seriousness.
At a time when corruption has reportedly reached its peak in various departments within the block, genuine beneficiaries continue to be deprived of government welfare schemes. The general perception in the region is that the grievance hearing camp turned into a complete mockery.
