Chariot Construction Begins for World-Famous Rath Yatra on the Auspicious Occasion of Akshaya Tritiya
On the sacred occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the construction of chariots for the world-famous Rath Yatra commenced. As per tradition, three sacred logs of wood (Dhaura Katha) were worshipped in a ritual known as Banayaga, performed by Vedic Brahmins at the Rath Khala (chariot-making yard) in front of the Shree Jagannath Temple.
Following the midday rituals, the official command to begin the chariot construction was ceremonially announced with great fervor in the form of “Ajñā Māla” (divine permission) from Lord Jagannath, marking the auspicious start of the grand and sacred task.
