Pharmacist Attacked by Patient’s Relative at Health Center
Kakatpur, 12/7 – On Wednesday evening, a pharmacist at the Primary Health Center in Kakatpur, Puri district, was brutally assaulted by a patient’s relative over alleged delay in treatment. The incident also resulted in damage to furniture and a water purifier at the health center. The entire episode was captured on CCTV. Following the complaint, Kakatpur Police have launched an investigation.
According to reports, Manoranjan Raut, a resident of Nilakanthapur village, was unwell and was brought to the government health center in Kakatpur by his brother, Mantu Raut. In the absence of a doctor, pharmacist Bhakta Narayan Maharana was attending to patients at the outpatient department. He prescribed medicine and an injection for the patient.
Since the nurse responsible for administering injections was occupied with setting up a saline for another patient, Mantu Raut questioned the pharmacist angrily about the delay. He then started verbally abusing him in front of other patients using offensive language. In a fit of rage, he smashed chairs, the OPD table, and threw the blood pressure machine on the ground, breaking it. He then picked up an iron stool and launched a deadly attack on the pharmacist.
Following the assault, he grabbed the pharmacist by the collar, dragged him, and forced him to administer the injection to the patient in the ward. Even after this, Mantu’s anger hadn’t subsided. He continued his rampage by damaging an iron hospital bed and breaking the water purifier meant for patients.
Based on the pharmacist’s complaint, Kakatpur Police arrested Mantu Raut and have continued further investigation into the matter.
