Innocent Child Battles Blood Cancer, Family Seeks Help Amidst Financial Crisis
When hardship strikes, it’s uncertain who will extend a helping hand. There are many diseases in this world, but when a patient or their family hears the word “cancer,” the fear and despair that follow are unimaginable. A similarly heartbreaking situation has occurred in Dahikhia village of Kakatpur.
Sampad Sethy, a daily wage laborer from this village, is the father of 12-year-old Sonu Sethy, who is currently battling blood cancer and undergoing treatment at SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar. For the past 15 days, his parents have been running from pillar to post, borrowing huge amounts of money to cover Sonu’s treatment costs at Bhubaneswar Medical. But that was just a drop in the ocean.
According to the doctors, Sonu’s full treatment requires around ₹50 lakhs, an unimaginably huge amount for a poor laborer like Sampad. Government assistance is yet to reach the family, and they don’t have the means to afford the treatment on their own.
In a desperate attempt to save their friend, Sonu’s schoolmates and companions gathered today on the main road of Kakatpur with donation boxes in hand. With tearful eyes and heartfelt pleas, they are appealing to passersby to contribute whatever they can. Whatever they collect is being handed over in hopes of saving Sonu.
Sonu’s classmates and friends are going door to door seeking donations. On the other side, a helpless mother cries in pain, not just her — the entire Dahikhia village and surrounding region shares the grief.
Moved by the situation, many intellectuals and concerned citizens of Kakatpur have also come forward to extend their support to Sonu’s family.
Only 12 years old, Sonu should be spending his days playing and laughing with friends. But who knew such a dark day would come when this young boy would have to fight for his life? His parents had so many dreams for him, but today, they only dream of his survival.
Will God show them a way? Will this grieving mother be able to save her son? Who will provide such a massive amount of help?
Today, as every door seems closed for Sonu, his friends earnestly request the State Government and various charitable organizations to come forward. If they do, Sonu might still have a future — a chance to live and experience the world.
