Electricity Consumers’ Union to Gherao Power Office on the 13th
Kakatpur, 03/08 – On Sunday, a crucial emergency meeting was held by the Maa Mangala Electricity Consumers’ Federation under the chairmanship of President Aditya Kumar Raut. During the meeting, several critical issues were discussed, including arbitrary actions by the electricity department, unannounced power cuts, inflated electricity bills, low voltage, delays in the renovation of the 33 KV line, and the connection of the 33 KV line from Bangurigaon to Kakatpur.
Despite submitting a memorandum regarding these demands on June 12 to the Kakatpur Sub-Divisional Officer, local MLA, and State Sports, Youth Services & Home Minister Tusharkanti Behera, as well as the local administration, no satisfactory solution has yet been implemented.
In this context, the union has decided to organize a peaceful mass protest and gherao (encirclement) of the Kakatpur Sub-Divisional Electricity Office on the 13th of this month. The union has appealed to all electricity consumers from Kakatpur and Astaranga to participate in the protest and fight for their rightful demands.
Furthermore, due to the department’s continued lack of communication regarding power cuts and failure to provide any satisfactory updates, the present consumers expressed their strong dissatisfaction. They warned that nearly 2,000 consumers are expected to participate in the protest on the 13th.
Among others present at the meeting were the union’s legal advisor Advocate Prafulla Kumar Nayak, advisors Prabhakar Khuntia and Tushar Ranjan Dixit, Prafulla Tripathy, Vice President Amiya Kumar Nayak, Prabhas Kumar Prusty, Secretary Manas Samal, Treasurer Chittaranjan Mishra, Ashok Kumar Baral, Rajendra Mohanty, Debadatta Biswal, Julfukar Ali, Kamal Roshan, and Lingaraj Dalai, along with over a hundred consumers.
