Kakatpur Mourns the Demise of Shantilata
Kakatpur, September 29:
As the saying goes, even the divine must leave the mortal world. Today, Shantilata Dixit, wife of late Sudhir Kumar Dixit of Sebak Sahi, Kakatpur, Puri district, passed away at the age of 70. She breathed her last at 9 AM on Friday at her residence. Known in the community as a soft-spoken, charitable, and devout woman, she had once served as a teacher at Kakatpur Girls’ High School for a brief period.
Despite being bedridden for the last ten years due to health complications, she remained closely associated with religious and spiritual activities and was loved by many in the community.
At her deathbed were her elder son Debaraj Dixit, President of Prachi Youth Social Organization; younger son Tapan Kumar Dixit, former Sarpanch; son-in-law Kamal Lochan Dixit, President of Kakatpur Press Club and Vice President of the Puri District Journalists’ Association; Tushar Ranjan Dixit, Vice President of Kakatpur Press Club; along with her daughters-in-law and grandchildren.
Upon hearing of her passing, many eminent personalities from the region came to offer their final respects. Her mortal remains were taken in a funeral procession, which was attended by BJD Youth Leader Himanshu Bhushan Dixit, Manas Kumar Dixit, Harihara Dixit, Ashok Kumar Dixit, Kakatpur Panchayat Congress President Nalini Kanta Dixit, and Pradeepta Kumar Dixit, among others.
After reaching the village cremation ground, her last rites were performed. The funeral fire (mukhagni) was lit by her elder son Debaraj, younger son Tapan, and son-in-law Kamal Lochan.
