10 Grams of Brown Sugar Seized, One Arrested
Kakatpur (Tushar Dixit), 13/01 — Kakatpur Police have arrested a brown sugar dealer near the river embankment at Khandasahi under Kakatpur Police Station in Puri district. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Kakatpur IIC Umesh Chandra Swain, including SI Priya Pradhan, ASI Pramod Kumar Sethi, Constables Ajit Behera and Rajkishore Gochhayat, set up a surveillance operation near the Khandasahi river embankment around 3 a.m. on Friday night.
Around 5:30 a.m., the police noticed a man walking from Shikhar Ghat toward Khandasahi Chhak. As he approached, the team intercepted and apprehended him. The accused has been identified as Nilu alias Surendra Kumar Swain (37), son of Prahlad Swain from Khandasahi village.
The police seized 10 grams and 400 milligrams of brown sugar along with a mobile phone from his possession. A case has been registered under Case No. 17/24 at Kakatpur Police Station under Section 21(B) of the NDPS Act, and the accused has been forwarded to court.
The estimated value of the seized brown sugar is approximately ₹1 lakh. With the illegal brown sugar trade increasingly corrupting the youth in the Kakatpur area, the proactive efforts of newly appointed IIC Umesh Chandra Sahu have been widely appreciated by the public.
