Delicious Makar Chaula Offered to Maa Mangala at Her Temple
Kakatpur (Tushar Dixit) | Date: 15/01
On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, a special ritual was performed today at the temple of Maa Mangala, the presiding deity of Puri district.
In the afternoon, after the temple was opened, a beautifully decorated platter containing Makar Chaula prepared with fragrant flowers was ceremonially brought out from the sanctum by the Pujapanda servitors, accompanied by traditional Ghanta-Mardala (musical instruments), chhatri (royal umbrella), and chamara (whisks). The ritual procession made three rounds of the temple courtyard.
Following this, a special Makar Chaula Bhoga Niti (offering ritual) was held inside the temple. The delicious Makar Chaula, prepared using raw rice, chhena (cottage cheese), banana, milk, sugar, and coconut, was offered to Maa Mangala.
It is a long-standing tradition for each devotee family and temple servitor to prepare Makar Chaula and offer it to the Goddess on this sacred day.
