Along the banks of the ancient Prachi River, the sacred region is home to the Ashta Shambhu (Eight Forms of Lord Shiva) and Dwadasha Madhava (Twelve Forms of Lord Vishnu). Among these, the temple of Lord Madhabananda, located in Balara near Kakatpur, is an ancient and revered shrine.
On the day of Makar Sankranti, the temple sees the congregation of lakhs of devotees. Thousands of women devotees and worshippers gather with great devotion to offer prayers and seek blessings for the well-being of their families.
According to ancient scriptures, having a darshan (holy glimpse) of Lord Madhabananda on Makar Sankranti bestows spiritual merit equivalent to the good deeds of many lifetimes.
In the afternoon, the ritual of offering “Makar Chaula” (a traditional dish made with newly harvested rice) was performed for the deity, followed by the ceremonial Makar Bedha celebration.
