On the sacred occasion of Janmashtami, a special Krishna Janma Niti Puja was celebrated with great devotion at the Maa Mangala Temple in Kakatpur, dedicated to the presiding deity, Goddess Mangala.
At the temple of Patitapaban within the temple premises, the idol of child Krishna (Bal Gopal) was bathed, adorned with new clothes and ornaments, and the tale of his divine birth was recited from the scriptures. Devotees who had observed the Osha fast offered various items like fruits, milk, curd, butter, salt, and sweets during the worship.
As part of the traditional ritual, a symbolic Yamuna River was created in front of the temple. In a dramatic enactment, the servitor dressed as Vasudeva carried baby Krishna across the river, while another servitor appeared as Kamsa’s soldier Ugrasen to obstruct him. Eventually, Ugrasen realized Krishna’s divinity, his delusion was dispelled, and a sacred Patshadi cloth was tied on his head, symbolizing surrender and blessing. This touching portrayal mesmerized the devotees, who were deeply immersed in the childhood leelas of Lord Krishna.
The rituals continued late into the night, concluding with the distribution of prasad and the completion of devotees’ fasts. All ceremonial arrangements and rituals were coordinated under the supervision of the temple administration, with Executive Officer Kailash Chandra Das confirming the smooth conduct of the event.
