Newly Constructed Astaranga Police Station Inaugurated by Chief Minister
Kakatpur, 16/12(Tushar Dixit) – At 5:30 PM today, the newly constructed Astaranga Police Station was virtually inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi from the Odisha Police Headquarters. Astaranga, being a sensitive region, had long been in need of an independent police station. Due to the absence of such a facility, both the general public and the police have faced various challenges over the years. Although the proposal for a new police station was approved during the tenure of the previous government, construction was recently completed, and the station was finally inaugurated today.
The Astaranga Police Station will now serve 103 revenue villages across 13 of the 15 gram panchayats in the Astaranga region. Built on an area of 156 square meters with a project cost of ₹2.28 crore, the new station includes facilities such as an officer’s chamber, child and women’s help desks, a modern office, waiting areas, separate male and female custody rooms, an armory, a records room, and parking space.
Present as chief guest at the event was Jagatsinghpur MP Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Tarai. Other distinguished guests included Kakatpur MLA Shri Tushar Kanti Behera, Puri Additional SP Bishnuprasad Pati, Astaranga Tehsildar Priyanka Priyadarshini Pati, Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Smt. Arati Nayak, BDO Sasmita Behera, and Nimapada SDPO Prabhat Malkik. Following the ceremonial lamp lighting and rendition of the national anthem, the guests delivered their speeches. Police officials informed that prior to the opening of the new police station, 248 criminal cases had been registered at the previous station operating in the region.
Astaranga attracts thousands of tourists annually to destinations like Pir Jahania beach, Gangadevi, and the Mangrove Eco-Tourism site. During the event, the guests briefly discussed the importance of maintaining effective law and order in such popular areas.
Present at the inaugural evening event were local sarpanchs, panchayat nominees, former MLA Surendra Sethi, Rabindra Mallik, Baidhar Mallik, youth BJP leader Dibakar Chatoi, and around 300 intellectuals and community members from various panchayats of the Astaranga area.
