Hundreds of Parents Protest at BJIEM School Over Arbitrary 20% Fee Hike

Bhubaneswar, 02/03/2025:
Parents of students studying at BJIEM School gathered in large numbers today to protest against the school’s arbitrary annual fee hike of 20%. As the school has been increasing fees irregularly and without proper consultation, over 500 parents assembled in front of the school this morning, holding placards and shouting slogans against the administration. A similar protest had also taken place the previous Sunday.

With no positive outcome from earlier efforts, the School Parents’ Association planned to submit a complaint to the Chief Minister’s grievance cell on Monday. Following this, the school authorities finally responded, agreeing to a discussion. A meeting was scheduled for 11 AM at the school premises under the mediation of Badagada police officer Mr. Tripti Ranjan Nayak.

Six members from the Parents’ Association—led by President Mr. Ranjan Kumar Dash and including Mr. Nityananda Behera, Satya Sundar Sahu, Asit Das, Sima Chakrabarty, and Nibedita Das—entered the school for talks. On behalf of the school, the Principal Ms. Sandhya Jena, Chairman Mr. Raghunath Mishra, and Manager Mr. Pratap Jena participated in the meeting, which lasted nearly three hours.

It should be noted that as per the recommendations of the Hon’ble Justice K.P. Mohapatra Committee, no private school can unilaterally decide on any fee-related matter without first consulting the Parents’ Association. However, the BJIEM school authorities violated this rule and implemented a 20% fee hike annually without any such discussion.

Moreover, complaints have arisen that parents who voice concerns are being told to immediately withdraw their children and admit them elsewhere. According to standard procedure, any parent representatives in the school management committee must be approved by the registered parents’ association. Yet, the school, bypassing these norms, has handpicked two parent members to the committee, allegedly to serve its own interests and legitimize irregular practices.

Since 2009, the school has been claiming financial losses without providing any verified data. Proper investigation, auditing, and legal review of the school’s financials are necessary. Some distressed parents, unable to bear the pressure, have reportedly attempted self-immolation or suicide. The Parents’ Association intervened and helped restore order.

Today’s discussion primarily focused on three key demands:

First Demand: The Parents’ Association demanded that a School Management Committee (SMC) meeting be held soon to review the recent fee hike. School Manager Mr. Pratap Jena reportedly agreed to this.

Second Demand: The school authorities agreed to upload audited balance sheets and detailed expenditure records from the past five years on the school’s official website.

Third Demand: Starting from the academic year 2026, parent representatives selected in consultation with the Parents’ Association will be officially included in the SMC committee. This was confirmed in a press release issued by the Association’s president.

ଏତିରେ କିଛି ସୁଫଳ ନମିଳିବାରୁ ସ୍କୁଲ ଅଭିଭାବକ ସଙ୍ଘ ଆସନ୍ତା କାଲି ସୋମବାର, ମୁଖ୍ୟମନ୍ତ୍ରୀ ଙ୍କୁ ତାଙ୍କ ଅଭିଯୋଗ ପ୍ରକୋଷ୍ଠ ରେ ଆବେଦନ କରିବାପରେ ସ୍କୁଲ କର୍ତୁପକ୍ଷ ଙ୍କ ନିଦ ହଜି ଯାଇଛି । ତେଣୁ ସ୍କୁଲ କର୍ତ୍ତୃପକ୍ଷ ତରବର ହୋଇ ଆଜି ସକାଳ ୧୧ ଟାରେ ବଡଗଡ ଥାନା ଅଧିକାରୀ ଶ୍ରୀ ତୃପ୍ତି ରଞ୍ଜନ ନାୟକ ଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟାସ୍ତା ରେ ଆଲୋଚନା ପାଇଁ ସମୟ ଦେଇଥିଲେ l ଏହା ନେଇ ସ୍କୁଲ ଅଭିଭାବକ ସଂଘ ର ଛଅ ଜଣ ଅଭିଭାବକ ଆଲୋଚନା ପାଇଁ ସ୍କୁଲ ଭିତରକୁ ଯାଇଥିଲେ । ସ୍କୁଲ ସଂଘ ତରଫରୁ ସଭାପତି ରଞ୍ଜନ କୁମାର ଦାଶ ଙ୍କ ନେତୃତ୍ୱରେ ଶ୍ରୀ ନିତ୍ୟାନନ୍ଦ ବେହେରା, ସତ୍ୟ ସୁନ୍ଦର ସାହୁ, ଅସିତ୍ ଦାସ, ସିମା ଚକ୍ରବର୍ତ୍ତୀ ଓ ନିବେଦିତା ଦାସ ସ୍କୁଲ କର୍ତ୍ତୃପକ୍ଷ ତରଫରୁ ପ୍ରିନିସିପାଳ ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟା ଜେନା, ଚେୟାରମେନ ଶ୍ରୀ ରଘୁନାଥ ମିଶ୍ର, ମ୍ୟାନେଜର ଶ୍ରୀ ପ୍ରତାପ ଜେନା ଙ୍କ ସହିତ ଦୀର୍ଘ ତିନି ଘଣ୍ଟା ଧରି ଆଲୋଚନା କରିଥିଲେ l

୨୦୦୯ ମସିହାରୁ ସ୍କୁଲ କର୍ତ୍ତୃପକ୍ଷ ସ୍କୁଲ କ୍ଷତିରେ ଚାଲୁଥିବା ଦର୍ଶାଇ ଚାଲିଛନ୍ତି ଏହାର ସଠିକ ଅନୁଧ୍ୟାନ, ହିସାବ ଓ ତଦନ୍ତ ଆଇନତଃ ବିଭାଗ କରିବା କଥା l ଏହି ଅବ୍ୟବସ୍ଥାରେ ବୀତସ୍ପୃହ ହୋଇ କିଛି ଅଭିଭାବକ ଆତ୍ମହୁତି ଓ ଆତ୍ମହତ୍ୟା ଉଦ୍ୟମ ଭଳି ଚରମ ନିଷ୍ପତି ନେବା ଘଟଣା ଘଟି ଯାଇଛି l ସ୍କୁଲ ଅଭିଭାବକ ସଙ୍ଘ ଏଥିରେ ହସ୍ତକ୍ଷେପ କରି ଘଟଣାର ସ୍ଥିରତା ଆଣିଛି l ଆଜି ଆଲୋଚନା ରେ ମୁଖ୍ୟତଃ ତିନୋଟି ଦାବୀ ଉପରେ ଆଲୋଚନା ହୋଇଥିଲା l

ପ୍ରଥମ ଦାବୀ – ସ୍କୁଲ ଫିସ ବୃଦ୍ଧି ଉପରେ ମ୍ୟାନେଜମେଣ୍ଟ ଏ ସଂକ୍ରାନ୍ତ ରେ ଅଳ୍ପ ଦିନ ଭିତରେ ଆଉ ଥରେ ପରିଚାଳନା କମିଟି ବୈଠକ କରି ଆଲୋଚନା କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଅଭିଭାବକ ସଙ୍ଘ ଦାବି କରିଛି । ସ୍କୁଲ ମ୍ୟାନେଜର ଶ୍ରୀ ପ୍ରତାପ ଜେନା ଏଥିରେ ସମ୍ମତି ଦେଇଥିବା ଜଣା ପଡ଼ିଛି ।

ତୃତୀୟ ଦାବୀ ଅନୁଯାଇ ଆସନ୍ତା ବର୍ଷ ୨୦୨୬ ମସିହା ଠୁ ମ୍ୟାନେଜମେଣ୍ଟ ସ୍କୁଲ ଅଭିଭାବକ ସଙ୍ଘ ସହ ଆଲୋଚନା କରି ମନୋନୀତ ଅଭିଭାବକ ପ୍ରତିନିଧି ମାନଙ୍କୁ ଏସ ଏମ ସି ( SMC) କମିଟି ରେ ରଖିବାକୁ ରାଜି ହେଇଛନ୍ତି ବୋଲି ସଂଘ ର ସଭାପତି ଏକ ପ୍ରେସ ବିଜ୍ଞପ୍ତି ରେ ଜଣାଇଛନ୍ତି l
