A Mega Fishing Harbour to be Established at Nuagada
Kakatpur, 13/03/2025 – (Tushar Dixit): While the existence of the Nuagada fishing harbour in the Kakatpur Assembly Constituency of Puri district was on the verge of vanishing, the persistent efforts of the Hon’ble MP of Jagatsinghpur, Bibhuti Bhusan Tarai, and the compassionate vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the Viksit Bharat initiative have paved the way for transforming the Nuagada fishing harbour in Astarang into a mega fishing harbour.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the Union Ministry of Fisheries has sanctioned ₹179.90 crore for the project. The completion of the harbour is targeted by 29th November 2025.
Once completed, the harbour is expected to benefit nearly 20,000 traditional and professional fishermen in the region, informed Prasanna Behera, President of the Odisha Fishermen’s Federation.
In today’s press conference, Sudarshan Swain, MP representative from Puri, acknowledged that the realization of this project is a result of MP Tarai’s strong advocacy in Parliament. He also stated that the tourism potential of the Jagatsinghpur parliamentary constituency will be further accelerated.
Among others present at the event were BJP MLA candidate Baidhar Mallick, all Mandal presidents, women leader Rajalaxmi Dash, Kailash Nayak, BJP leader from Konark region Rashmiranjan Dash, BJP leader from Astarang Ishwar Behera, and Prashant Bhol, who extended their congratulations and best wishes to MP Tarai for this significant achievement.
