First Pali Yatra of Goddess Mangala to Begin Tomorrow
Kakatpur, 17/03/2025 – (Tushar Dixit): The sacred month of Chaitra has begun. Today marks the first Tuesday of Chaitra. As per traditional customs, the famous Jhamu Yatra’s First Pali Yatra has commenced at the temple of Goddess Mangala, the presiding deity of Kakatpur. According to Mangala Temple’s Executive Officer Kailash Chandra Das, today’s Pali Yatra will feature rituals like Netrotsav, Ghanta Patua dance, and Gopal sevaks performing Ludi Khela (a traditional devotional dance).
As announced, the Second Pali Yatra will be held on March 25, the Third Pali Yatra on April 1, the Fourth Pali Yatra on April 8, and the grand Jhamu Yatra on April 15. This was informed by Kamal Lochan Dixit, a priest of Maa Mangala.
While many other temples across the state observe Jhamu Yatra on Pana Sankranti or Mahavishubha Sankranti—a ritual involving walking barefoot over burning embers—Kakatpur’s Maa Mangala Temple uniquely celebrates it on the fifth Tuesday of Chaitra or the first Tuesday of Baisakha month. Devoted married women observe Chaitra Mangalabar Osha and Panthaei Osha during this period, praying to appease Maa Mangala for the wellbeing of their husbands and families.
