Journalist’s Mother Passes Away; Condolences Pour in from All Quarters

Sushila Devi, mother of young journalist Alekh Biswal from Kakatpur who reports for the daily newspaper Odisha Khabar, passed away at the age of 67 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. She had been suffering from age-related ailments for the past 15 days. Doctors declared her deceased yesterday morning.
At the time of her passing, her husband Shankar Biswal, only son Alekh Biswal, daughters-in-law Surekha Biswal, Sujata Biswal, Tripti Biswal, Sushmajit Raut, and Himanshu Behura were present beside her. Her mortal remains were brought to her residence in Kakatpur, where many intellectuals and well-wishers arrived for the final viewing.
Condolences have poured in from across the region. Expressing grief were Kakatpur MLA Tusharkanti Behera, Puri District Vice President Swadhin Nayak, Block Chairman Sridhar Nayak, Congress MLA candidate Bishwabhushan Das, social worker Dillip Baral, English daily Editor Sujnan Chaudhury, President of Kakatpur Press Club Kamal Lochan Dixit, Vice President Tushar Ranjan Dixit, President of Astaranga Press Club Sarat Parida, Kakatpur Sarpanch Abhaya Sethy, Samiti Member Soumendra Dixit, BJD Block President Prananath Mallik, among others. Several business association members also paid their last respects.
Sushila Devi was widely known in the region as a compassionate, soft-spoken, and devout woman. Her death has cast a pall of gloom over the entire Kakatpur area. Her mortal remains were taken in a grand procession through the market area and later cremated at Swargadwar in Puri. Her son Alekh Biswal performed the last rites. Family members including Kailash Biswal, Naresh Biswal, Sameer Biswal, Rakhil Biswal, and many relatives and friends attended the cremation and offered their floral tributes.
