Kakatpur: Date – 07/10/2024
Just before the Sharadiya festival celebrations, criminals have thrown an open challenge to the Kakatpur police in Puri district. According to reports, around 10 PM last Sunday night, two miscreants stormed into the Flipkart office located near Balar Chhak, just a short distance from the Kakatpur market. Wearing helmets, face coverings, and holding firearms, they entered the office, held the staff at gunpoint, and looted over a lakh in cash, two mobile phones, and the CCTV DVR before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Kakatpur police registered a written complaint from Sunil Mahapatra, a staff member at the Flipkart office and a resident of nearby Tentulia village. Although the police conducted a search at the scene, there was no trace of the robbers. A scientific team from Puri and cyber experts visited the location and conducted an investigation.
As per investigating officer Sub-Inspector Priyadarshini Baral, an FIR has been registered under Kakatpur Police Station Case No. 204/24, under Sections 331(6), 309(6), BNS 2023/25/27, and the Arms Act. Further investigation is ongoing.
It’s worth noting that on September 16th at around 7 PM, in a previous incident under the same police jurisdiction, two criminals shot and injured Niranjan Sahu, the owner of Sahu Jewellery at Kundhei Hat Chhak, and fled. Even after 20 days, no trace of the culprits has been found. Now, with this latest armed robbery, serious questions are being raised about the effectiveness and efficiency of the Kakatpur police.
