A Unique Proposal to Spark a New Awakening in Blood Donation Across the State
During the tragic period of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the entire nation was grappling with the struggle between life and death, an inspiring initiative was undertaken by an Odia youth, Padmalochan Mahapatra, the chief coordinator of a blood donor group. In a significant move, he personally met Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand, and his father, Shibu Soren, former Chief Minister and current Rajya Sabha MP, at their official residence and office, and presented a unique and innovative proposal aimed at creating a new awakening in the field of blood donation in the state of Jharkhand—a state often categorized as underdeveloped and predominantly tribal.
According to the proposal, essential measures were suggested including: maintaining a minimum required stock of blood units in all state blood banks, organizing blood donation camps across various regions of the state, ensuring timely transportation of collected blood to major district hospitals, and most importantly, establishing direct communication between patients and blood donors to facilitate immediate blood availability. Additionally, the proposal included the formation of an independent Blood Transfusion Cell within the state.
As per recent updates, the state government has expressed verbal approval and agreed to adopt the framework proposed by Padmalochan Mahapatra. The government is in the process of preparing a formal policy draft and is expected to issue an official notification soon in support of the initiative.
This commendable effort by Padmalochan has garnered appreciation from intellectual circles, and many are now coming forward to offer support to help advance this noble cause in the days to come.
