Mumbai is the Most Polluted City in the World; Even Breathing Here is Dangerous
Since February, extreme heat has been felt, particularly in urban areas compared to rural regions. The main reason behind this is pollution. According to the IQAir ranking report, Mumbai has become the second most polluted city in the world. Breathing itself has become difficult and hazardous for the people living there.
While residents of Mumbai may feel they are breathing freely, the Swiss air tracking index IQAir reported that between January 29 and February 8, Mumbai ranked as the second most polluted metropolitan city in the world during that week. On January 29, Mumbai was in 10th position on the IQAir global pollution ranking. However, by February 2, it had dropped to the worst rank—number one. A few days later, on February 8, it slightly improved and reached second position. Then, on February 13, based on air quality, Mumbai overtook Delhi and became the third most unhealthy metropolitan city in the world. Until then, Delhi had long remained at the top of India’s list of most polluted metros.
During the week from January 29 to February 8, the ten most polluted cities in the world included Lahore in Pakistan, Mumbai in India, Kabul in Afghanistan, Kaohsiung in Taiwan, Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan, Accra in Ghana, Krakow in Poland, Doha in Qatar, Astana in Kazakhstan, and Santiago in Chile.
