First Floodwater of the Year in Devi River
Kakatpur, 26/07 – Following the release of water through 12 gates of Hirakud Dam, the water level in the Mahanadi River has risen. As a result, the Devi River, a tributary of the Mahanadi, is experiencing its first floodwater of the current year. The water level in the Devi River is steadily increasing.
Near Bauria Kana, close to Kakatpur, although the river water level is still below the danger mark, the floodwater continues to rise. This has caused growing concern among the riverside residents of the Kakatpur area. With continuous rainfall on one hand and the rising water level in the Devi River on the other, anxiety among locals is mounting.
Water levels in the tributaries of the Devi River, such as the Luna and Bhauria rivers, are also gradually rising. In the low-lying areas of Kakatpur constituency, including Nagar and Alasahi panchayats, backwater has started entering agricultural lands. Due to incomplete or inadequate repair of embankments, locals remain in a state of fear.
There is concern that with a low-pressure system forming ahead, floodwater levels may increase further.
