Kakatpur Police Station in Shambles, Law and Order Situation Worsens
Kakatpur, 29/7:
The condition of Kakatpur Police Station, considered the headquarters police station of the Kakatpur Assembly segment in Puri district, has deteriorated significantly. Plagued with multiple issues, the station is currently operating with only an ASI (Assistant Sub-Inspector) in charge.
Following the transfer of former IIC (Inspector-in-Charge) Priyaranjan Nayak, the new IIC Ranjan Kumar Mallik served for just one and a half months before being transferred to Jajpur. Even after over a month since his departure, no new IIC has been appointed to the station. As a result, criminals have grown bold, openly committing crimes and directly challenging the police.
The condition of the police vehicle stationed here is also poor due to long-term neglect, and the absence of a driver has made it difficult for the police to apprehend criminals in time. Many complainants coming to file cases at the station reportedly leave disappointed, not receiving justice.
Although a newly constructed police station building worth over ₹1 crore has been completed, frequent power cuts force officers to work using mobile flashlights. Meanwhile, the criminal activities in and around Kakatpur — including illegal liquor trade, ganja smuggling, and brown sugar dealings — are on the rise. Due to a lack of essential staff and a vehicle driver, the police are unable to make timely arrests.
Therefore, there is a strong demand from the public for the District Superintendent of Police to take urgent action — by appointing a new IIC, filling vacant staff positions, providing a new vehicle, and equipping the station with an inverter to ensure proper functioning.
