Senior Congress Leader and Durga Lodge Owner of Kakatpur Passes Away, Market Drenched in Grief
Kakatpur, 26/10: A deep sense of sorrow engulfed Kakatpur following the demise of senior Congress leader and owner of Durga Lodge, Durga Charan Nayak. He was a veteran grassroots leader of the Kakatpur Block Congress and a close associate of late former MLA Baikuntha Nath Swain, as well as the former president of Lakshmi Bazar in Kakatpur. His death was reported early in the morning, and soon after, many prominent figures arrived at his residence for a final glimpse of the departed soul.
Among those who came to pay their last respects were Lakshmi Bazar President Ratikanta Behera, Kakatpur Block President Avadhuta Swain, Astarang Block Congress President Bauribandhu Mohanty, Panchayat Samiti Chairman Sridhar Nayak, Panchayat President Nalini Kanta Dixit, Karuna Kara Senapati, and Sheikh Liyakat, among others. Upon hearing the news, numerous Congress leaders and workers rushed to his home in grief.
Durga Charan Nayak, popularly known as Kalubabu, played a crucial role in strengthening the Congress party at the grassroots level in Kakatpur Block as a close aide to late Baikuntha Nath Swain. He also played a key part in providing irrigation water to farmers through the Panchayat water system in Kakatpur.
His death has created a significant void in the Kakatpur Congress, said former Congress leader Satyabrata Patra (Ramu) in his condolence message.
Following a procession through Kakatpur market, his mortal remains were taken to the cremation ground near College Square, where the final rites were performed. His only son, Prabir Kumar Nayak, lit the funeral pyre. The entire town of Kakatpur mourned his passing, as a pall of sadness settled over the area.
