Unknown Animal Spotted in Bhandar Danda Village of Satyabadi
An unknown animal was spotted in Bhandar Danda village under Satyabadi, causing panic among the villagers. Out of fear, the villagers captured the creature and have kept it in an Anganwadi center.
Upon identification, the animal has been recognized as a Honey Badger (scientific name: Mellivora capensis), also known as a Ratel. The honey badger is a widely distributed mammal found across Africa, southwestern Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. Due to its broad distribution and adaptability to various habitats, it is classified as a species of “Least Concern” on the IUCN Red List.
It is the only living species in the genus Mellivora and is part of the subfamily Mellivorinae under the family Mustelidae
