Dutch Tourist Returns to His Country
Puri – Dated 14/03/2024 – Dutch tourist Anthony Van Arkel, who became a victim of theft while touring Odisha, has now returned to his home country. Following the incident where all his money and belongings were stolen, Anthony found himself in a helpless situation and took shelter at the Niladri Nilaya beggars’ relief center from January 25 to February 29, after being brought there by the police.
Moved by his condition, social worker Daniel Nayak and senior journalist Bishnudatta Das brought the matter to the attention of the district and police administration through a press conference. Responding to the situation, District Information and Public Relations Officer Santosh Kumar Sethi, with the support of the district administration, arranged for Anthony’s temporary stay first at a Panthanivas (tourist lodge) and later at the Circuit House.
On Thursday, the accused taxi driver Sagar Mallik was arrested by the police, identified in front of Anthony, and has been sent to judicial custody for further investigation.
Finally, District Information Officer and District Sports Officer Chandan Kumar Sahu ensured that Anthony was safely transported to Bhubaneswar airport and sent back to his home country on a government-arranged flight.
