In a shocking incident under Kakatpur police limits, Niranjan Sahu, the proprietor of Sahu Jewellery at Kundhei Hat Tinichhaka market, was shot at by two miscreants while sitting in his shop. According to reports, two young men arrived from the Konark side on an unregistered Honda Shine motorcycle. Wearing masks, they entered the shop abruptly.
When Mr. Sahu questioned them, one of the assailants suddenly pulled out a gun and fired two rounds. Taken by surprise, Mr. Sahu attempted to flee but was hit by a bullet, one of which exited through his rib cage while another remained lodged inside, as confirmed by the attending doctors at Kakatpur Health Centre.
In a quick act of bravery, Mr. Sahu reportedly threw nitric acid, kept in his shop, at the attackers. This forced them to abandon their bike and escape in a WagonR car heading towards Konark. Severely injured, Mr. Sahu was rushed to the nearby health centre by local shopkeepers. After receiving primary treatment, he was referred to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced care.
Following the incident, Kakatpur police conducted searches at multiple locations. The officer-in-charge of Kakatpur Police Station, Bijay Ketan Behera, informed that an intensive investigation is underway.
