Kakatpur | Date: 24/10
Report by: Tushar Dixit
In anticipation of the impending Cyclone ‘Dana’, the Kakatpur Block Administration has declared complete preparedness to tackle the situation effectively. Extensive measures have been taken to provide shelter to people living in vulnerable conditions and for domestic animals, through both permanent and temporary cyclone shelters.
Cyclone shelters located at Suhagpur, Haridaspur, Chotipada, Shukapokhari, Runkei, Adhual, Singarpal, Dhanitri, and the Red Cross building at Tentulia, along with 33 temporary cyclone shelters, have been kept ready. Additionally, if the number of affected people increases, 148 school buildings across the block have also been identified as potential shelters.
The shelters are stocked with lighting, drinking water, dry food, and animal fodder. Under the supervision of SDO Prabhat Kumar Behera from the rural water supply and sanitation department of Nimapada, arrangements have been made to supply drinking water through tankers, as well as bottled and packaged water, at these shelters.
Efforts are underway to evacuate around 6,000 people residing in riverbank, coastal, and low-lying areas. All block-level staff and schoolteachers have been deployed for this task. A 24-hour control room has also been opened at the block office.
Tahasildar Ankita Anandita, Block Development Officer Bishnu Govind, Panchayat Officer Subrat Kumar Parida, Block Supply Officer Sudhakar Mallik, BEO and teacher Trilochan Biswal are frequently visiting both permanent and temporary shelters to assess the situation and are actively working to spread awareness about cyclone preparedness among local residents.
