Youth Groups Take Initiative in Satyabadi to Protect Stray Cows and Bulls

Saswat TV — Due to the advancement of science and rapid urbanization, concrete development is increasing in both urban and rural areas. As a result, grazing lands for harmless animals and playgrounds for children are gradually vanishing. In such circumstances, the lack of shelter for stray cattle in towns and villages is forcing them to wander aimlessly on main roads, both during the day and at night. These stray animals are becoming a serious threat to road safety, especially at night.
Because drivers often cannot see clearly in the dark, vehicles frequently hit these stray cows and bulls, resulting in accidents that cause injuries and deaths to both humans and animals. The number of such accidents—big and small—is increasing daily in villages and towns alike.

To prevent such mishaps, a noble initiative has been launched in the Satyabadi region by the Sambhabana Seva Parishad in collaboration with the Shashwata Foundation. They have begun identifying stray cattle and fitting reflective neckbands with radium strips around their necks. These bands glow when light falls on them, allowing bikers and car drivers to see the animals from a distance and avoid collisions. The organizers are hopeful that this will significantly reduce accidents.
The effort began with a Gopuja (cow worship) ceremony conducted by servitor Shyam Sundar Mohapatra. After the ritual, organization members including Himansu Mohapatra, Subhalakshmi Senapati, Prahallad Bhoi, Diptisundar Mohapatra, Shivani Mohapatra, and Deepti Ranjan Mohanty identified stray cows and tied the reflective neckbands around them. Local residents also helped enthusiastically in the process.
This important initiative was widely appreciated by senior servitors of Sakhigopal Temple and local intellectuals, including Kishore Mohapatra, Basanta Kumar Pattnaik, Bharat Raut, Sanjay Samantray, and Santosh Kumar Panda. They praised the step and actively participated in the event.
