
Veteran Actor Uttam Mohanty Passes Away – Odisha Mourns the Loss
Veteran and legendary actor Uttam Mohanty is no more. Every Odia viewer who admired him finds it hard to accept his demise. His passing has cast a deep shadow of sorrow over the entire art and cultural fraternity of the state. With his impeccable acting skills and magical screen presence, Uttam had captivated audiences for decades. Today, the whole of Odisha stands stunned by his departure.
On February 6th, Uttam Mohanty was admitted to KIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar after his health deteriorated severely. He was kept on a ventilator and under intensive care. However, as his condition worsened, he was airlifted to Delhi on the 8th for advanced treatment. There, he was being treated for liver cirrhosis and pneumonia. After a prolonged battle for nearly 20 days, Uttam Mohanty passed away today at the age of 67.
He breathed his last at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after bravely fighting for his life over several days. His death has plunged many circles into mourning. Uttam Mohanty’s absence leaves a profound void in the world of cinema and performing arts. Alongside notable actors and actresses, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed their deep condolences.
According to his close family friend and producer Ravi Mishra, Uttam’s mortal remains will be flown from Delhi to Bhubaneswar Airport. His son Babushaan and daughter-in-law Tripti are accompanying the body. Distinguished personalities have already started arriving at his residence in Bhubaneswar for his final darshan. As per the Chief Minister’s announcement, his last rites will be performed with full state honors at the cremation ground in Satyanagar.
