Two-Day Joint Military Exercise “Sagar Kavach” 2023 to Neutralize Enemy Threats
Astaranga | 12/04 – In an effort to eliminate enemies and prevent the entry of terrorists, the Navy has undertaken a unique strategy. A two-day joint coastal defense exercise named “Sagar Kavach” has commenced on the Astaranga coast of Puri district. Starting Tuesday morning, this exercise aims to assess and strengthen the coastal security system.
Following the Mumbai terrorist attack, both the state and central governments have been organizing this annual joint exercise, Sagar Kavach, to review coastal security arrangements across the country. In Puri district’s Astaranga region, areas like Nuagaon, Kaliakana, and Sahan witnessed demonstrations of strategic warfare by the Navy and police forces.
The two-day drill, which started today, is focused on preventing infiltration via the sea. Participating in this operation are the Indian Coast Guard, Marine Police, Astaranga Police, and officers from various other police stations. The exercise is conducted with two teams – Blue and Red. While the Blue Team defends the coast, the Red Team acts as enemy infiltrators, approaching from the deep sea and attempting to attack the shore. The Blue Team is fully prepared to respond strongly to any such enemy intrusion.
This annual exercise is conducted to protect the coast from external threats and to raise awareness among all departments on how enemies might try to enter through sea routes.
On the first day, two terrorists from the Red Team – Netharan D.S. and Ashish Kumar Kaushal – were captured by the Blue Team while approaching the coast in the Ganga Mata boat.
Several officers, including Panchanan Parida, officer-in-charge of Nuagaon Marine Police Station, Master Pramod Rana, Master Bipracharan Swain, Astaranga Police Station S.I. Prashant Bishwal, A.S.I. Sangram Mishra, and A.S.I. Jalandhar Badjena, were present during this operation. In addition, two platoons of police force were deployed.
