Congress to Fight for Justice for Girls and Women
Nayagarh, 23/03/2025 – (Bhaskar Chandra Swain): Responding to Pradesh Congress President Shri Bhakta Charan Das’s call to ensure justice for school and college girls and women in the state, the Nayagarh District Congress, under the leadership of senior lawyer and district president Ranjit Das, held a preparatory meeting and press conference to mobilize for the Vidhan Sabha gherao scheduled for Thursday, March 27.
Addressing the press, PCC observer Mr. Manas Acharya and Amrita Das stated that since the BJP government came to power in the state, there have been reports of 55 female students being subjected to gang rape and nearly 1,500 minor girls going missing or falling victim to sexual violence. The Congress party will demand an investigation, answers from the Chief Minister in the Assembly, and the formation of a House Committee. The attack on senior Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati and his suspension from the House for seven days will also be protested. The gherao is aimed at exposing the anti-women stance of the BJP government to the people of Odisha, said PCC observer Mrs. Das.
Former MP and senior Congress leader Nakul Nayak informed that nearly 1,000 workers from the district will participate in this gherao protest.
Commenting on the case of the Nayagarh college girl who allegedly gave birth to a stillborn child, district Congress President and lawyer Ranjit Das questioned why college authorities have yet to file a report and emphasized that the party will pursue the matter with seriousness. The Congress has alleged that law and order in the district is in disarray.
