“Indian Cricketers Take Injections to Stay Fit,” Chetan Sharma’s Claims Spark Controversy
Indian cricketers are allegedly taking painkiller injections to appear fit for team selection despite being injured. According to Chetan Sharma, former chief selector of the BCCI, some players rely on these injections to prove their fitness during selection, even if they’re not fully recovered. His comments have stirred up a major controversy in the Indian cricketing world.
Chetan Sharma made these explosive revelations during a sting operation conducted by a private television channel. He claimed that even some of India’s top and experienced players have taken such injections and that many of them have their own personal doctors. Whenever these players suffer injuries, their private doctors administer injections to help them appear match-fit.
Sharma further alleged that many players, even when only 80–85% fit, take these injections and go on to play, hiding their actual physical condition. He also disclosed that during the Australia tour in September, there were disagreements between team management and medical staff regarding the fitness status of Jasprit Bumrah.
He also spoke about Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Sourav Ganguly, sharing significant insights. He stated that Kohli had voluntarily wanted to step down as captain before the T20 World Cup in 2021. While there was no direct conflict between Rohit and Kohli, Sharma claimed ego issues did exist. He added that miscommunication and jealousy were responsible for the rift between Kohli and then BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.
These revelations by Chetan Sharma during the sting operation have triggered widespread debate and raised questions about transparency and management within Indian cricket.
