16 Soldiers Martyred in Road Accident
23 December 2022 – A tragic road accident occurred today at Zema in North Sikkim, claiming the lives of 16 Indian Army personnel, including three Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs). The truck carrying the soldiers was en route from Chatten to Thangu when it lost control near a curve and met with the fatal accident. Rescue operations were immediately launched following the mishap. Four other soldiers who were in the truck were rescued in critical condition.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed deep sorrow over the incident in a message on Twitter. He stated, “Deeply anguished by the loss of lives of Indian Army personnel due to a road accident in North Sikkim. The nation is grateful for their service and commitment. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Tributes were paid to the martyred soldiers, and condolences were extended to their grieving families. Wishes and prayers for the quick recovery of the injured were also conveyed through messages on Twitter.
