Youth Missing After Being Swept Away in Floodwaters
Kakatpur – 07/08/2024 (Tushar Dixit):
Almost every year, several people go missing in the Devi River at Astaranga. A similarly tragic incident has occurred in the Edabansha village of Talada Panchayat under Astaranga block. A youth from the village, Ashish Kumar Senapati (age 25), son of Sarat Kumar Senapati, has gone missing after being swept away in the Devi River.
According to reports, on Tuesday evening around 6 PM, Ashish had gone to the banks of the Devi River near Edabansha for defecation. However, he did not return home for a long time. As suspicions grew during the night, his family began searching for him in various locations. Eventually, when they reached the riverbank, they found Ashish’s slippers and a towel left there, which deepened their concerns.
This led his family to alert the local fire department early this morning. Ashish’s elder brother, Adarsh Kumar Senapati, informed the media about the incident. A dedicated team from the fire department has been conducting search operations at the incident site since the report was received.
According to the Station Master of the Fire Department at Dahikhia in Kakatpur, the water current is very strong due to the influx of floodwaters, and the flow of the Devi River has also increased significantly. As a result, the youth may have been swept deep into the water. This incident has created a heartbreaking situation among the villagers and the family.
