Tribute Paid to Martyrs of 2001 Parliament Attack at Parliament Premises
On December 13, marking 21 years since the terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament, tributes were paid to the martyrs in the Parliament premises. Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other leaders offered floral tributes in remembrance of the bravehearts.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said:
“I pay tributes to those who were martyred during the 2001 Parliament attack. We will never forget their service, bravery, and supreme sacrifice.”
Notably, on December 13, 2001, five terrorists entered the Parliament complex and launched an armed attack. As a result, nine people, including security personnel and Parliament staff, were martyred, and one cameraman lost his life. All five terrorists were killed at the scene.
In connection with this incident, Afzal Guru was awarded the death penalty and was executed in 2013.
