Satyabadi in the Grip of Brown Sugar – Police Crack Down
Satyabadi: 13.12.22
The historic Bakulban in Satyabadi, once known for its cultural heritage, had recently turned into a den for illegal brown sugar traders and a daily hangout spot for drug addicts. Taking the matter seriously, the Satyabadi Police achieved a major breakthrough by seizing brown sugar worth over ₹5 lakh and arresting two traders involved in the illegal drug trade.
This action is part of the ongoing crackdown against narcotics by Puri Police. Acting on specific intelligence, the Satyabadi Police seized approximately 54 grams of brown sugar and arrested two accused under Case No. 368 and under Sections US-21(b)/29 of the NDPS Act.
At a press briefing held at Satyabadi Police Station, Pipili Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shri Debadatta Baral informed that on 12.12.2022 in the afternoon, acting on a tip-off and under the direction of the Puri SP, a police team led by Satyabadi Police Station’s woman sub-inspector Mamata Bishwal and ASI Krushnachandra Behera conducted a surprise raid at Bakulban Chhak near Panchasakha.
During the raid, two suspects — Rakesh Kumar Swain of Gabapada and Anantamani Mishra of Podanga Sahi, both under Satyabadi Police Station — were taken into custody and interrogated. In the presence of a magistrate, their personal search led to the recovery of approximately 54 grams of brown sugar worth an estimated ₹5,40,000, a Mahindra scooter, ₹18,700 in cash, mobile phones, and small-sized polythene packets used for packing the contraband.
Based on this, a case under various sections of the NDPS Act has been registered against both accused, and further investigation is ongoing. Satyabadi IIC Shri Bijay Ketan Behera has taken charge of the investigation. The accused have been arrested and will be forwarded to court today.
SDPO Shri Baral reiterated that Puri Police will continue its zero-tolerance policy against the illegal drug trade.
