Street Horse Dance Performed for Awareness on ‘Fatua’ Disease
Kakatpur – 01/08/2024 (Tushar Dixit):
The cow is one of the most important domesticated animals in India. As essential as cows are for the environment, they are equally significant to human civilization. In Hinduism, cows are revered as “Gomata” (mother cow). However, a contagious disease known as “Fatua” commonly affects cows and bulls, especially during the monsoon season. This disease often leads to the infection and, in many cases, the death of cattle.
To spread awareness about this issue, the Odisha Government’s Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development organized a street-side horse dance drama near Melana Padia in Manduki Panchayat under Astaranga block. The purpose of the street play was to raise awareness among livestock owners about the causes, symptoms, and prevention of the Fatua disease.
Through the performance, people were informed about the benefits of vaccination and how timely immunization can keep cattle healthy. Additionally, people were advised to contact the Livestock Department through the toll-free number 1962/155333 for free assistance whenever necessary.
The event was attended by Dr. Subhashree Pradhan, Chief Veterinary Officer of Astaranga, along with Additional Veterinary Officer Rajesh Mohapatra and staff member Suman Jena. They provided guidance on how to protect cows and bulls during this season and urged the general public to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding animal health.
